Yamatos are aquatic plants that fire missiles and torpedoes at zombies, as well as self-destructing on land.

Overview[]

In the water, Yamato acts as a regular offensive plant. It fires missiles at zombies that deal 4 damage points (1 point of splash damage), and it fires torpedoes at submerged zombies that deal 5 damage points. It can fire 3 missiles at a normal rate, but then it fires 2 missiles at a slower rate, and then it goes back to the 3 missiles at a normal rate. If it is eaten, it explodes in a 3x3 radius, dealing 5 damage points.

If planted on land, Yamato will start struggling for 3 seconds, before blowing up in a 5x5 radius. This explosion deals 40 points of damage, and it leaves behind shrapnel in random spots. These pieces of shrapnel act as Spikeweeds, but only deal half the damage.

Due to being heavily armored, Yamato will actually be drawn in by Magnet-shroom. This triggers Yamato's explosion attack.

When charged, all of Yamato's projectiles deal 2 more damage points. It will also fire 5 missiles at a normal rate and one missile at a slower rate, in addition to its electric pulse. Its explosion also deals electric damage.

Yamato is based off of a yam, as well as the Japanese battleship Yamato. Its design stems from the "yam" in "yamato."

Plant Food Ability[]

Using Plant Food on Yamato causes it to fire 10 missiles at random zombies on the board, and 5 torpedoes at random zombies in the water. This also completely heals Yamato.

Strategies[]

Yamato is very expensive, being the same price of the likes of Banana Launcher. Because of this, coupled with its very slow recharge, its purpose should be chosen wisely.

Though it doesn't deal as much damage as a Doom-shroom on land, it can be effective at weeding out weaker zombies. Also unlike Doom-shroom, it doesn't leave a crater.

In the water, Yamato could be described as one of the strongest continually attacking plants. It's able to clear out Snorkel Zombies using its torpedo attack. However, its sporadic fire rate may dissuade its use as a reliance, though its slow recharge may do that already.

Trivia[]

  • Should Yamato ever be in a game, it is usually always obtained near the end of it.
  • Its almanac entry references how the word "yam," especially in North America, typically refers to species of sweet potatoes.
  • Though it has abnormally high health, it is not classified as a defensive plant.
