Plants vs. Zombies: World Tour is a tower defense game which is a spin-off of Plants vs. Zombies game created by Krayleb. World Tour uses the same visual appearance as the second game, Plants vs. Zombies 2, and is set to be released on the 24th of January, 2025. As its name suggests, Plants vs. Zombies: World Tour's theme is about travelling around the world to different countries, with plants you unlock being native to that country while the zombies you face acquire various cultural elements of these countries to challenge you.

After a brief period of time, from May to December of 2022, World Tour had been put on hiatus by the creator to take a break from work but worked on it again for a good long while before now eventually retiring this project and working on better things.

Plot[]

Dr. Zomboss has grown fed up with always having his zombie hordes vanquished by the powerful plants. He decides to abandon his hunt for Suburbia's takeover, and instead, he is going to take over the world. Crazy Dave does not want this to happen, and decides to pursue the mad zombie doctor with the assistance of his time-travelling RV, Penny, who can fly to each location he invades.

Icons[]

Gameplay[]

Like the other Plants vs. Zombies games, players plant down plants in order to defend from incoming zombies. Each plant requires a certain amount of sun to be able to plant them down, and each one requires a certain amount of time before they can be placed down again.

Family Trees[]

Each plant belongs to at least one or two Family Trees, which are categorized based on their general functions and abilities much like the Power Mints from Plants vs. Zombies 2. Apart from serving as a category system, Family Trees serve no other purpose as of right now, but they will in the future. Each tree can be bought for $20,000 in the store.

The Ten Family Trees:

  1. Infantree: Straight-shooting plants
  2. Sunyan: Sun-producing plants
  3. Basterion: Defensive plants
  4. Bombsai: Explosive plants
  5. Oaktillery: Cannon and lobbed-shot plants
  6. Meleegrove: Melee and close-ranged plants
  7. Conifrost: Stalling, halting and freezing plants
  8. Bamboozle: Weakening and controlling plants
  9. Striquioa: Strikethrough and direct-hit plants
  10. Acaciassist: Healing, buffing and money-making plants

The Shovel[]

The shovel is a tool that can be used to dig up any plant on the lawn that the player doesn't want to be there. By clicking on the shovel and then on the undesired plant, the player will be able to remove that plant.

Lawnmowers[]

Lawnmowers are a defensive item that are placed at the very back of every lane and serves as the last line of defense. Zombies that trigger it will cause the lawnmower to drive down the lane and decimate all the zombies in that lane, as well as destroy any grid items such as gravestones and statues. They cannot respawn normally, so players will have to make sure that they are only used in emergency situations.

Currencies[]

There are four currencies to collect, each with their own purposes.

Sun[]

Sun is the main currency, and the first introduced. Sun is used to buy plants to place them down. Starting off with only 50 sun, players will need to gather more sun through any that falls through the sky during day levels or through plants that produce sun like Sunflowers and Sun-shrooms. The maximum number of sun you can have at one time is 9990, and at the end of a level every 100 sun will be converted into a penny. Sun ranges from 15, to 25, to 50.

Money[]

Money is the second currency introduced in World Tour, and can be obtained through defeating zombies, being produced by Marigolds, Zen Garden plants, or through completing levels and earning money bags or mystery gift boxes. Money allows players to buy things from Penny's Space-Time Emporium such as premium plants, a level increase for the shovel, and Family Trees. While regular money bags give $1,000 and are obtained through beating most levels, big money bags are rare, but give $5,000 when obtained.

The maximum amount of money players can collect is $999,990. Money ranges from Silver Coins ($10), Gold Coins ($50), Zombucks ($100), and Diamonds ($1000).

Tacos[]

Tacos are a collectible item. You can obtain them from going to the Taco Truck or through vanquishing Taco Imps. Tacos can be brought into levels, and can be clicked on and dragged onto a plant's seed packet to reduce the cost of the plant which can also be used to improve their stats. However, tacos will only affect one plant at a time, so boosting one Peashooter seed packet will not boost all of them.

Sprouts[]

Sprouts are a Zen Garden-exclusive item which can be converted into new plants to place in your Zen Garden. You can earn them through Mystery Gift Boxes, defeating zombies or purchasing them through the shop.

Mystery Gift Boxes[]

Mystery Gift Boxes are earned after beating certain levels, and they can provide players with coins, sprouts for the Zen Garden, shop vouchers or costumes. Rare Gift Boxes are a red variant, and can provide three items.

Countries[]

With the exception of Suburbia, there are fifteen main locations in World Tour, preceded by a decent tutorial. Every country will also have their difficulty being rated out of five Jalapeños, with one being the least hard while five being the most difficult.

Layout[]

Each country has 24 levels, but is divided into two segments with 12 levels in each; a day segment where sun falls from the sky and a night segment where falling sun is absent. As players travel to different countries, not only will they have to face off against various hordes of zombies, but they must also deal with the environment as well as it poses a threat no matter the location; the environment and the gimmicks changing depending on the time of day.

Each country has a few brain busters scattered throughout their levels, brain busters forcing players to abide by certain objectives in order to pass. Brain buster levels are always present in days 3, 5, 9 and 10, and then in nights 3, 5, 7, 10 and 11 and will vary in difficulty.

After beating the twelve day levels, players will have access to the night levels which are entirely optional to play, except for Cadavera's night levels which are needed to be played in order to beat Adventure, and the next country.

Adventure Mode Countries[]

Each country is unlocked upon beating the last country's day levels, so players will play the game in a linear pattern with no way to skip to later worlds although the night levels are optional. With 16 countries across the game, and 24 levels in each country, there are 384 levels all together in the adventure mode. The world map itself takes the form of a globe which can be moved around to find the location.

Trivia[]

  • Plants vs. Zombies World Tour started on the 13th of October, 2019, and the creation went into a hiatus from the 1st of May, 2022 before being remade in December.
  • The name of the game was originally going to be called “Plants vs. Zombies: Around the World in 80 Brains” but the creator decided that it would not suit the game since, although both media products are about travelling around the world, there are more than 80 levels in the game, 80 locations would be difficult to design, and the name of the game is too long.
    • The name, Plants vs. Zombies: World Tour, is a reference to the Canadian animated TV series Total Drama World Tour.
  • Currently, Plants vs. Zombies: World Tour has undergone four reboots, as the creator has not been happy with the quality of the game in the past.
    • World Tour even underwent a hiatus for a long while, as the creator was not able to continue.
  • The Attack type symbols use the icons for the mint families.
  • The Attack and Defense systems resemble the type matchup charts from Pokemon.
