Holograins are passive plants that can be planted on other plants, or other plants can be planted on it, to turn them into holographic versions of themselves.

Overview

Holograins can be planted on the ground by themselves or on other plants. When this plant and another plant occupy the same space, regardless of which was there first, the plant that isn't Holograin becomes a holographic version of itself. This means that it will regenerate health, and it cannot be fully eaten.

Zombies will simple walk past a Holograin by itself, but Gargantuars and other zombies can crush/run-over it.

Using a Holograin on itself, an Infi-nut, or any other holographic plant will trigger an explosion with the strength of a Cherry Bomb. Aquatic plants are also not affected by this plant, as the projector cannot float on water. The exception is a Lily Pad on land.

Instant-use plants, such as Cherry Bomb, or single-use plants, such as Iceberg Lettuce, cannot be planted on Holograin, nor can Holograin be planted on them.

A plant pushed onto Holograin, as well as Spore-shroom spores, will trigger the transformation. This also applies when a plant's Plant Food ability summons clones of itself around it.

Holograin is based off of a wheat crop, and its name is a portmanteau of "hologram" and "grain."

Plant Food Ability

If Plant Food is used on a Holograin by itself, then it will turn all plants in a 3x3 area around it holographic. This will not trigger an explosion. The Holograin itself remains.

If Plant Food is used on a plant that has been turned into a hologram through Holograin, then the plant does its own Plant Food Ability. Holographic Lily Pads and Spore-shrooms create more holographic Lily Pads or Spore-shrooms.

Trivia

  • Holographic Flower Pot can still hold plants, though those plants cannot heal.
  • A Holographic Puff-shroom can regenerate after disappearing, though it is not advised transforming a Puff-shroom as the sun cost would not be worth it.
  • Holograin cannot be frozen.
  • A Holographic Wall-nut will have more health then an Infi-nut.
  • Only the base of a mobile plant can be holographic.
  • A Holographic Explode-o-Nut will not regenerate after an explosion. Instead, a Holograin will reappear back where the Explode-o-Nut was.
    • Guacodile and Parsnip follow a similar method, as a Holograin will appear when they run off the map.
  • A holographic plant will count as 1 plant. Holograin by itself, however, does count as a plant.
  • If a holographic plant that needs to recharge is eaten, it will regenerate fully charged.
  • It is similar to Icy Holly, as they both change a certain quality of a plant.
