Grass is a plant in Plants vs. Zombies: The Wacky House. He is unlocked after completing Level 7-1: Here We Are. He grows in a slow and steady rate, allowing the player to plant on the clouds and other irregular terrain. Below is the rate of growth when planting Grass.

  • 1 tile - when planted
  • 3 tiles - 5 seconds
  • 5 tiles - 10 seconds (15 seconds after planting)
  • 7 tiles - 25 seconds (40 seconds after planting)
  • 9 tiles - 30 seconds (1 minute 10 seconds after planting)

Origins[]

He is based off of common grass. Rare Grass is based off of a pink bathmat.

His ability to allow plants to plant on him is a reference to grass being a source of planting in real-life.

Almanac entry[]

Overview[]

Grass can be used to plant on irregular terrain, like the clouds seen in The High Sky and Ethereal Skies. Grass only covers a single tile when initially planted. After five seconds, it will grow two tiles outward; Grass prioritizes growing from the center, however if there is no room available in either side, it grows towards whatever side has room left. After ten seconds passes (fifteen seconds from initial planting), Grass will grow two tiles more, covering five tiles in total. After 25 seconds, it will grow two more tiles outward totaling in seven tiles of planting space. Finally, after 50 seconds, it will grow two more tiles to cover an area of nine tiles. The entire process to grow to full size takes 90 seconds, or one minute and 30 seconds. Grass will stop growing once all zombies have been defeated in the level.

In Ethereal Skies, Grass operates slightly differently. Grass will only grow up to five tiles, which is enough to cover one half of a lane in that world. In addition, Grass can be planted twice in the same row, but only if the two Grasses are in different quadrants. Therefore, two Grasses are required to cover a whole lane in Ethereal Skies. This prevents Grass from being split in any way whenever a lawn rotation occurs.

Rare counterpart[]

Rare Grass2

Rare Grass, much like Rare Hot Potato, simply acts as an alternative way of using Grass. Rare Grass's sun cost is raised to 100, however, its recharge is lowered to three seconds.

It looks like a pink bathmat, as both are commonly stepped on.

Strategies  Free-Edit Section[]

Grass is the only way to plant normal plants in The High Sky, therefore it is a must to bring it. Its rather sluggish recharge and the fact that only one is allowed per lane prevents the player to plant much plants early in the game. This is something to keep in mind, so use your planting places wisely. Once unlocked, the Rotobaga can be used as offense while Grass is still growing and recharging early in the level. The Rotobaga's fast recharge, multi-directional capabilities and its usefulness of not requiring soil are all great reasons to use Rotobaga as the Grass grows.

The Rare Grass can be used as an alternative if the player wishes to prioritize spending a little more sun over waiting longer for Grass to recharge. Be wary of incoming zombies as you spend money on Rare Grass, however. One strategy is to wait until the first zombie spawns to place the first Rare Grass. Then, place the first Rare Grass in the back and to place a Sunflower there, and proceed to place the second Rare Grass near the incoming zombie and use an Iceberg Lettuce or even a Wall-nut to stall.
