Bamboo Shoots is a plant in Plants vs. Zombies "3": Back to the Roots. They are unlocked upon beating Fan Street - Level 7. They cost 250 sun, and shoot rockets down their lane that deal heavy damage, albeit slowly.

Origins[]

Bamboo Shoots3

Bamboo Shoots is based on the plant of the same name from Plants vs. Zombies 3. Their appearance is virtually unchanged, compared to their appearance in that game.

Suburban Almanac entry[]

Bamboo Shoots

Bamboo Shoots fire slowly, but deal heavy damage.

The Bamboo brothers have always wanted to be the stars in an action movie, though, as it turns out, casting messed up their roles. The gruff, serious looking guy was meant to be the one shooting rockets out of his head, and the nervous one was supposed to fire the shots. But that's show-business, for ya'.

Plant Food effect[]

Bamboo Shoots' Plant Food effect is called BamBOOM!. When used, Bamboo Shoots will fire a missile down their lane, that travels until it hits the first zombie it can reach. This missile does 60 peas of damage to all zombies in a 3x3 area.

Strategies[]

Compared to other straight-shooting plants, Bamboo Shoots can be recognized for its superior damage output. Compare with Repeater, which deals 2 peas of damage every 1.5 seconds. While it takes Repeater roughly 7.5 seconds to defeat a basic Zombie, it takes Bamboo Shoots only 5.2, and thanks to its damage output, Bamboo Shoots can quickly defeat basic Zombies in a single hit, while heavily damaging other zombies as well.

Despite its power, however, Bamboo Shoots does have noticeable drawbacks. Compared to the other plants on Fan Street, Bamboo Shoots has the highest sun cost, costing 50 more than Repeater and Lemon-Aid. Additionally, thanks to its slow damage output, this means it often struggles with hoards of weaker zombies, meaning Imps, Zombie Chickens, and even just swarms of basic Zombies can be considered a counter to Bamboo Shoots. Bamboo Shoots also faces competition from Citron, which has almost double its damage output, albeit with a slower fire rate and a much higher cost.

It is recommended to use Bamboo Shoots alongside Lemon-Aid to speed up their attacks, something that can help them fare better against large swarms of Zombies. Placing multiple Bamboo Shoots can also allow them to cover for one another, but this is also noticeably expensive. Bamboo Shoots is best backed up with some faster, but weaker attacker. Area-of-effect plants, such as Bloomerang, pair well with Bamboo Shoots, as they can thin out weaker zombies, allowing their attacks to hit stronger zombies instead.
